I Have A Massive Buffer

Well, it's bigger than before anyway. I kept on getting error messages if  I overworked my recording software even just a bit. Then I remembered the buffer. It is now set to Jumbo.

This is a boring post I know, but it feels like another small breakthrough for me and my struggle with technology over the last couple years.

Anyway, on the release side of things, hopefully Fud will be knocking out some bass lines for RAWK 2, Two Vowels and Outroboros very soon so we can finish this thing. A May release looks likely, although it will be NZ Music Month here and every motherfucker will be jostling for attention. But when it's "in the can" (lingo), I shall "drop it" (more lingo) immediately.

Also doing some more writing for the next batch of tunes to be released after Space Roots has, err, "dropped". Currently working on "Westminster" which has nothing to do with politics, but was conceived whilst delivering mail on Westminster Ave in Christchurch.

Anyway, more importantly, I had 4 Weetbix and coffee for brekky today. Made Vegemite and Peany Beeny sangers for smoko. Holding back on our meagre supply of Marmite due to earthquake related yeast extract shortage. Nevermind.

Until next time.

Cover?

Maybe, maybe not,  although the song order isn't finalised yet.

Guerilla Biryani

Been writing out bass parts this week. For Outroboros, Rawk 2, Two Vowels.... and I Haven't Touched Your Dog, Mate. Once these are recorded, it's pretty much done. Then it's tweaky mix time and guerilla master time.

Cooked a lovely Biryani for dinner tonight. Lentil and Mushroom curry last night. Excessive wind anyone?

Two Vowels....

Holy Shit Batfuck!!

Trying to locate all the files for "Two Vowels Contemplate The End Of The World"  took an age tonight. It had already been mixed a couple years ago(!), but Fud is going to do a bass part which will be a thousand times better than the synth bass part I recorded, so I opened up the Logic song and searched various locations for all the missing files. Cracked it!!

Too late to transcribe the current bass part tonight, so will do it tomorrow.

Here is the drawing that inspired the title. Again.
Breakfast today - 4 Weetbix, Coffee. We had Polenta again for dinner.
This afternoon I put up a shelf unit in my room to try and tame the chaos in there.

RAWK 2 Bass Lead Sheet

Here is the bass lead sheet for RAWK 2, written last night. A bit messy, but has the tricky bits tabbed out.

Muesli and Warfare

Cracked it and tracked it!! Nailed all four parts of Late Night Guitar and got them recorded.
Check it here.

Breakfast again consisted of 4 Weetbix, Budget Cocoa Pops and black coffee. Hummus and marmite sarnies for smoko. With a cheap muesli bar. Fuck, this is really interesting eh?

On a separate note, I re-discovered Passion And Warfare by Steve Vai this week. The very best album of it's kind. Nothing comes close.

Polenty of Progress

Things going well right now. Finished my parts for RAWK 2, specifically the outro. All that's left to do is get a bassline from Fud and tweak the mix.

Outroboros has been sufficiently heavied up and sounds good.

Today I located some missing files from a short tune tentatively called Late Night Guitar. This was recorded in two bar sections and cut together. Now I just have to re learn the 4 individual parts and record them to achieve a better flow with no pops or clicks.

Also today I installed the mastering software I had used on the old music PC (RIP). My special guerilla mastering techniques can begin, which is exciting for any audiophiles out there.

So progress is being made at a rapid rate.

4 Weetbix, Coffee for brekky. Had some lovely Polenta at smoko today.

Below is a rough for a potential CD booklet.

Glass Eye, Weetbix and Coffee.

Finally found the Logic file for Glass Eyed II. Took out the synth bass and replaced it with Fud's that he did an age ago and sent to me while I was in the UK. Result sounds great, well happy. Things are really moving along now.

Last night recorded several guitar parts for RAWK 2 and Outroboros. Multiple takes needed, but success in the end.

This morning I had 4 Weetbix with some generic Coco Pops on top. You thought I'd forgotten about my breakfast updates hadn't you? All washed down with a cup of black coffee. Mmmmmmm.

Dogging

Recorded the outro for I Haven't Touched Your Dog, Mate last night and mixed it in to the rest of the tune. Happier with this mix than the one I've been listening to for the last couple years. What? A couple years? Yeah, that's right. That's what happens when life gets in the way of a Prog Rock dream.

I've passed a couple tunes to Fud for him to do some bass lines, including RAWK 2 in which he has a blank canvas in the middle part of the song to express himself fully.

On course for May still. Hopefully.
