Done, Bitches.
Phew. We got there. Finished "mastering" and now the tunes are ready for uploading to Bandcamp. Physical CD will be ready in a couple weeks.
Many thanks to Rob Payne from Canterbury Music Planet for tweaking the EQ for me. My mixes were good, just a bit too much in the bottom end due to my monitoring set up being poo.
19 songs ready to go. Bloody Hell!

Halfway
Went well at Rob's last night. Tweaked the EQ on half of the full length tunes, doing the rest on Friday night, plus all the little inbetween tunes as well.
All the mixes I had done were nearly there, we just had to roll some of the bottom end off. The headphones I stole from Barclays call centre 12 years ago apparently have caused me to over compensate on the bass a little.
'Til next time.

Sicky...
Called in sick to work today. Had to make sure all audio files and 24 bit mixes were in order as I'm off to Rob "Bring The" Payne's house tonight to listen to everything through his better monitors. Doubt we'll get it all done in one session, but we'll see how we go. Usually, I'm less than a perfectionist at this point, so it'll be good to get another pair of ears on the case.
Artwork is 99% done, so I reckon I'll send a master disc off to the CD people next week sometime.
Other news - had a jam with Fud on Sunday. He was using his new 10 string bass. It's proper mental, like.

Fudding Hell
In the last week, Fud has tracked parts for RAWK II, Outroboros, Alive in the Mullet Zone, Two Vowels Contemplate the End of the World and is about to tackle I Haven't Touched Your Dog, Mate.
Anticipating tweaking the mixes this week through some better monitors and then we're done.
Excellent.

Website is back - the server people upgraded me but then forgot, or something.
Anyway, screw all that.
RAWK II is done - Fud has done his parts, sounds great.
Just waiting on Bass lines for Two Vowels and Outroboros and that's it. Apart from some tinkering with I Haven't Touched Your Dog, Mate. I can't help myself.
Talking of helping yourself, have you pre-ordered yet?
Byeeeeeee......

Website Down :(
Due to bandwidth being exceeded, www.lucidbrucemusic.com, home of The Bob Lazar Story, is temporarily down. Should be resolved in a matter of days, will keep you posted.
Magnet News
Fridge magnet designed (see pic) and ordered. Yeah, that's right. A magnet. For your fridge. Also, stickers and postcards on the way too. All these wonderful things will be part of the Deluxe Space Roots Package.
Find the pre-order page here : http://www.lucidbrucemusic.com/space-roots.htm
Other news - Fud's bass parts for RAWK II are sounding great and hopefully the remaining tracks will be completed over the next few days.

Brief Collab
Whilst waiting for basslines, I have worked on a small collaboration with infamous UK pair MC GingerBalls and Whoopsy. Provided some bluesy noodling which came out superbly hum free. Will post when released.

Nearly....
Hopefully Fud will get to the bass parts in the imminent Easter hols. He reckons his 10 string bass could be ready this week.
Going to sort out a pre order page in the next couple weeks.
Other news.....Usual Weetbix for brekky, followed by banana cake and 2 pieces of toast with PB and Jam. Lunch, Corn on the cob with roast potatoes and carrot and apple salad. Dinner, Veg Biryani and naan bread.
So there.

I Have A Massive Buffer
Well, it's bigger than before anyway. I kept on getting error messages if I overworked my recording software even just a bit. Then I remembered the buffer. It is now set to Jumbo.
This is a boring post I know, but it feels like another small breakthrough for me and my struggle with technology over the last couple years.
Anyway, on the release side of things, hopefully Fud will be knocking out some bass lines for RAWK 2, Two Vowels and Outroboros very soon so we can finish this thing. A May release looks likely, although it will be NZ Music Month here and every motherfucker will be jostling for attention. But when it's "in the can" (lingo), I shall "drop it" (more lingo) immediately.
Also doing some more writing for the next batch of tunes to be released after Space Roots has, err, "dropped". Currently working on "Westminster" which has nothing to do with politics, but was conceived whilst delivering mail on Westminster Ave in Christchurch.
Anyway, more importantly, I had 4 Weetbix and coffee for brekky today. Made Vegemite and Peany Beeny sangers for smoko. Holding back on our meagre supply of Marmite due to earthquake related yeast extract shortage. Nevermind.
Until next time.

Guerilla Biryani
Been writing out bass parts this week. For Outroboros, Rawk 2, Two Vowels.... and I Haven't Touched Your Dog, Mate. Once these are recorded, it's pretty much done. Then it's tweaky mix time and guerilla master time.
Cooked a lovely Biryani for dinner tonight. Lentil and Mushroom curry last night. Excessive wind anyone?

Two Vowels....
Holy Shit Batfuck!!
Trying to locate all the files for "Two Vowels Contemplate The End Of The World" took an age tonight. It had already been mixed a couple years ago(!), but Fud is going to do a bass part which will be a thousand times better than the synth bass part I recorded, so I opened up the Logic song and searched various locations for all the missing files. Cracked it!!
Too late to transcribe the current bass part tonight, so will do it tomorrow.
Here is the drawing that inspired the title. Again.
Breakfast today - 4 Weetbix, Coffee. We had Polenta again for dinner.
This afternoon I put up a shelf unit in my room to try and tame the chaos in there.

Muesli and Warfare
Cracked it and tracked it!! Nailed all four parts of Late Night Guitar and got them recorded.
Check it here.
Breakfast again consisted of 4 Weetbix, Budget Cocoa Pops and black coffee. Hummus and marmite sarnies for smoko. With a cheap muesli bar. Fuck, this is really interesting eh?
On a separate note, I re-discovered Passion And Warfare by Steve Vai this week. The very best album of it's kind. Nothing comes close.

Polenty of Progress
Things going well right now. Finished my parts for RAWK 2, specifically the outro. All that's left to do is get a bassline from Fud and tweak the mix.
Outroboros has been sufficiently heavied up and sounds good.
Today I located some missing files from a short tune tentatively called Late Night Guitar. This was recorded in two bar sections and cut together. Now I just have to re learn the 4 individual parts and record them to achieve a better flow with no pops or clicks.
Also today I installed the mastering software I had used on the old music PC (RIP). My special guerilla mastering techniques can begin, which is exciting for any audiophiles out there.
So progress is being made at a rapid rate.
4 Weetbix, Coffee for brekky. Had some lovely Polenta at smoko today.
Below is a rough for a potential CD booklet.

Glass Eye, Weetbix and Coffee.
Finally found the Logic file for Glass Eyed II. Took out the synth bass and replaced it with Fud's that he did an age ago and sent to me while I was in the UK. Result sounds great, well happy. Things are really moving along now.
Last night recorded several guitar parts for RAWK 2 and Outroboros. Multiple takes needed, but success in the end.
This morning I had 4 Weetbix with some generic Coco Pops on top. You thought I'd forgotten about my breakfast updates hadn't you? All washed down with a cup of black coffee. Mmmmmmm.

Dogging
Recorded the outro for I Haven't Touched Your Dog, Mate last night and mixed it in to the rest of the tune. Happier with this mix than the one I've been listening to for the last couple years. What? A couple years? Yeah, that's right. That's what happens when life gets in the way of a Prog Rock dream.
I've passed a couple tunes to Fud for him to do some bass lines, including RAWK 2 in which he has a blank canvas in the middle part of the song to express himself fully.
On course for May still. Hopefully.

Quick Clippy Clip.
This is the tricky melody for Outroboros which is part 3 of the Deadbiking Trilogy on the upcoming Space Roots.

Progress!
The music PC is now up and running, which is great. I've been writing some new stuff for the album after the upcoming Space Roots. I've just started to locate songs that need finishing and working on them. I've sent Fud the tunes that need bass lines and hopefully these can be done by May.
Currently working on:
Deadbiking Trilogy (Son of Foodstool, Targutions, Outroboros)
RAWK 1 & 2
Two Vowels Contemplate The End Of The World
The PC doesn't have quite as much grunt as the old one, but it's holding up OK so far.
'Til next time

Getting Closer!
Looks like I'm closer to finishing off Space Roots. Moving sound card and hard drive from defunct music pc into an existing pc we have had for ages, hopefully this will go smoothly and I can get busy again.
Been designing the cd packaging while this saga continues, so it feels like things are finally moving quicker.
Hoping to draw a line under all this by May this year.

Phew
Our PC with the web software is fixed. Turns out it just needed a $7 battery for the BIOS or sumfink. Relief all round.
Also portable hard drive is fixed, just needed a new enclosure. This is great news as it has all the audio back-ups for Space Roots on it.
And it looks like the shop can rebuild a music PC from the hard drive and sound card that remains from my last one.
A good day really.

Website Update
The website has finally been updated after a 2 year gap.
Our PC had been in storage while we were in the UK, and it had the software on it that i used to create web pages. So I plugged it in the other day after looking at it for the last seven months - it had fallen over in one of the earthquakes and i was too scared to turn it on.
I managed a few hours of tinkering on the website to get rid of dead links and add some new ones.
Unfortunately it has stopped working again, so off it goes to the shop tomorrow. Fingers crossed eh?
Anyway, check it here.
